K-4 Family Updates Newsletter
|
Dear K-4 Families,
This morning, students in grades K–4 and our CASE classroom enjoyed a special visit from author Maureen Harrington and her very determined dog, Ivy!
Students learned how Ivy, a French Bulldog, became paralyzed in her back legs at age three due to a rare spinal disease. However, this did not stop Ivy from living life to the fullest! Determined and resilient, Ivy first taught herself to walk using only her front legs and later learned to use a specially designed wheelchair.
Maureen shared her books with us, showed wonderful videos of Ivy’s journey, and even demonstrated how Ivy gets into her wheelchair. Their message inspired us all to never give up and to embrace what makes each of us unique.
A very special thank you to our PTO for bringing this incredible speaker to our K–4 community and for purchasing a book for every classroom! I was delighted to play the “book fairy,” delivering copies to classrooms along with bookmarks for each child this afternoon.
If your child would like their own copy of Ivy’s book—or Maureen’s second book about Ivy’s best friend, Rose Bud—you may order here at a discounted rate, with book/s shipped directly to your home.
Sincerely,
Gwen Blumberg, Lincoln School Librarian

Lincoln Public Schools is a proud founding member of the METCO program, and this year METCO is celebrating its 60th year. As part of its 60th anniversary, METCO Inc. is looking to raise funds to support a variety of student programming and professional learning opportunities.
The bulk of METCO funding comes through state grants to participating districts, and this funding goes to support METCO transportation and district staffing costs, along with a number of local programs. But METCO Inc. also sponsors a variety of programs for participating students through its Boston headquarters. For individuals or organizations that may wish to donate to METCO’s fundraising efforts, they have set up a donation page. For any Lincoln-associated families or organizations that may wish to donate, please be sure to mention the Lincoln connection when filling out your donation. And thank you!

Gather your crew (2–6 people), grab a cocktail, hit the nacho station, and settle in for a lively night of brain teasers, big laughs, and friendly competition. Adults from all grade levels — along with community members from Lincoln and Boston — are encouraged to attend.
We’re thrilled to have Lincoln’s own Dan Pereira emcee the evening's activities.
This isn’t just any Sunday night - it’s your chance to show off your random knowledge, claim ultimate bragging rights, and support Lincoln’s 8th Grade Class for their Spring Trip to Washington DC at the same time.
Warm food. Great drinks. Smart friends. Friendly Heckling. Questionable answers.
What more could you ask for?
