K-4 Family Updates Newsletter

March 6, 2026

A green chalkboard with the text 'A Message from the Principal' written in white.
Dear K-4 Families,

The winter weather has certainly kept us on our toes! While we’re expecting more sunshine and warmer temperatures next week, we’ll also be dealing with a messy mix of melting snow and mud. Please continue to send your child to school in layers and waterproof footwear so they can stay comfortable during outdoor play.

March is a busy and beautiful month as we celebrate Greek Heritage, Irish Heritage, Women’s History, and Music in Our Schools! Throughout the month, our morning announcements will feature stories of notable figures, history, and vibrant cultures.

Speaking of history, have you explored the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail? Their website is a fantastic resource, with sites organized by neighborhood and themes like the arts, abolition, civil rights, and time periods. Even if you can’t visit the trails in person, the digital maps and photos are well worth a look!

We remember to say that "Every day is a good day to celebrate identity and culture" to recognize the wonderful heritage months, and remind everyone that we believe in honoring and learning about our diverse backgrounds all year long.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead this weekend! Time changes can leave us all feeling a little "off," but sticking to your regular routines and getting plenty of physical activity can help make the transition much smoother for the kids.

Have fun at the LSF Lincoln Lounge this weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah

METCO is Turning 60!

Lincoln Public Schools is a proud founding member of the METCO program, and this year METCO is celebrating its 60th year. As part of its 60th anniversary, METCO Inc. is looking to raise funds to support a variety of student programming and professional learning opportunities.

The bulk of METCO funding comes through state grants to participating districts, and this funding goes to support METCO transportation and district staffing costs, along with a number of local programs. But METCO Inc. also sponsors a variety of programs for participating students through its Boston headquarters. For individuals or organizations that may wish to donate to METCO’s fundraising efforts, they have set up a donation page. For any Lincoln-associated families or organizations that may wish to donate, please be sure to mention the Lincoln connection when filling out your donation. And thank you!

MacLean Hospital: Leaders in Youth Mental Health Series

MacLean Hospital is excited to share that their next webinar as part of our annual School Consultation Service “Leaders in Youth Mental Health Series” is coming up on March 18th, 12:00PM-1:00PM.

All information for the caregiver webinars, including dates/times, Zoom links, presenter information and learning objectives can be found here on this website: https://healthcare.mgb.org/streaming/Live/McLean/McLean_SCS.html

Here as well are the details for the upcoming webinar:

Topic: Childhood irritability
Title: Responding Skillfully in the Context of Childhood Irritability
Date: March 18th, 12:00PM-1:00PM

Learning Objectives:
Childhood irritability, which can range from developmentally normative to serious and concerning, can often be difficult for adults to manage effectively in the home and at school. Irritability is often paired with behavioral responses like aggression, arguing, withdrawal, and even high-risk behaviors. In this webinar, caregivers and educators will: 1) gain a stronger foundational understanding of childhood irritability, 2) learn practical and effective strategies for staying grounded, supportive, and still firm, and 3) become familiar with therapeutic interventions that may be used as referral options should children and their families need additional support.
