Dear K-4 Caregivers,

Last Thursday evening, second graders from Hanscom School and Lincoln School made presentations to the School Committee. Six representatives from our second grade classes - Kate, Folarin, Rishi, Viviana, Patrick, and Evie - made a presentation to the School Committee about their recent EL Literacy module, "The Wide World of Schools," which focused on education around the globe. Through the module, they studied schools in various communities, including Siberia, Haiti, and Bangladesh. Using the book Off to Class, students examined what impacts access to education and how communities support it as a basic human right, focusing on the concepts of access, impact, and basic human rights.

The core activity involved collaborative and individual informative paragraph writing. Students worked with learning partners to converse and draft their paragraphs, utilizing a planner to ensure all necessary components were included:
  • Introduction
  • Focus Statement
  • Two Pieces of Evidence
  • Two Pieces of Elaboration
  • Conclusion

Students first partnered to write a paragraph about Siberia, then wrote their own paragraphs about either Haiti or Scotland. The students concluded their presentation by reading their paragraphs and expressing gratitude for their community, school, and teachers who help them learn.

Many thanks to our second grade team, Ms. McGrath, Ms. MIhovan, and Mrs. Webster, and congratulations to our students whose enthusiasm and presentation skills were a joy to see!

A reminder that caregivers are invited to the 2nd Annual K-4 Mock Ezra Jack Keats Award Ceremony tomorrow - details below!

Sincerely,

Sarah

Yearbook Info & Two-Question Survey

We are so excited to announce that we’re partnering with Coffee Pond to create a K-4 yearbook! This special keepsake will be packed with student and class photos, and all those wonderful candid moments we’ve captured throughout the school year.

Before we place the order, we’d love to gauge your interest to help us determine the final cost. Because the price depends on the total quantity we order, the more families who participate, the lower the cost for everyone! Here is the breakdown:

Number of Yearbooks Ordered - Price Per Book
100 – 149 Books = $28.00
150 – 199 Books = $26.00
200+ Books = $24.00

Please complete this two-question survey if you have not already done so!

Note: We want every student to be able to enjoy these memories—financial assistance is absolutely available.

The online order will be emailed out at the end of the month.

Sudbury Flag Football League

This fall for the 17th year, Sudbury Flag Football League will be running an organized flag football
program in Sudbury. This is a non-contact contact version of football where young players can
develop their passing, catching and defending skills.

The SFFL Is for BOTH Boys & Girls. The games will be played by the Official National Flag Football rules.

Each player who is placed on a team will receive an NFL replica jersey with NFL team colors with
matching shorts and a flag belt and flags.

Registration for Sudbury Spring Flag Football League is open and we currently accepting applications for its 2026 Spring league for children who are currently grades K through 11.
Games will be played on Sundays. There will be 8 regular season games plus play-off games. The
majority of games will be played on the field turf.

If you are interested in having your child join the League, visit our website to register
at www.sudburyflagfootball.com or email Sudburyflagfootballleague@gmail.com.

We have a limited number of spots available. The first proposed date of the league is Sunday 4/12. The drop-dead date for registration is Friday 4/10.

Please do not wait till the last minute because once we hit capacity, we will NOT be able to add any new players. Unfortunately, last year we had to turn some players away.

All information for the caregiver webinars, including dates/times, Zoom links, presenter information and learning objectives can be found here on this website: https://healthcare.mgb.org/streaming/Live/McLean/McLean_SCS.html

Here as well are the details for the upcoming webinar:

Topic: Childhood irritability
Title: Responding Skillfully in the Context of Childhood Irritability
Date: March 18th, 12:00PM-1:00PM

Learning Objectives:
Childhood irritability, which can range from developmentally normative to serious and concerning, can often be difficult for adults to manage effectively in the home and at school. Irritability is often paired with behavioral responses like aggression, arguing, withdrawal, and even high-risk behaviors. In this webinar, caregivers and educators will: 1) gain a stronger foundational understanding of childhood irritability, 2) learn practical and effective strategies for staying grounded, supportive, and still firm, and 3) become familiar with therapeutic interventions that may be used as referral options should children and their families need additional support.
